18th May 1980: Ian Curtis, Lead Singer of Manchester Band Joy Division, Commits Suicide, Aged 23

Troubled by epilepsy and who knows what other demons, coupled with a strained relationship with his wife Debbie and lover Annik, Ian Curtis tragically chose to hang himself in his Manchester home - two months before his 24th birthday and just when the band was starting to gain success in America.

Interestingly, he predicted that he would be dead by the age of 25 while he was still in his teens (I remember reading this years ago in Deborah Curtis’ book “Touching From A Distance”).

One of the GREATEST.ROCKBANDS.EVER. And I’m going to stop now, because I could rant and post images forever. Loves. RIP.

Handwritten lyrics for Ceremony by Ian Curtis. Performed by Joy Division and New Order.

Walk in silence,
Don’t turn away, in silence.
Your confusion,
My illusion,
Worn like a mask of self-hate,
Confronts and then dies.
Don’t walk away.
